The legal framework of the Government of Afghanistan is under review. The CAO operates under the Presidential decree
Authority by whom the Head of SAI is appointed The State President
Authority by whom the Head of SAI can be removed: The State President
Manner in which the Head of SAI can be removed: By the State President for e.g. corruption or illegal activity
Term (tenure) of office of the Head of SAI: Unlimited tenure
Status (position) of the Head of SAI:  Similar status to that of a Government Minister
Terms and conditions of appointment of the Head of SAI: As determined by the State President.
Privileges of the Head of SAI: Privileges similar to Government Ministers and Diplomats
Mandate of the SAI: Independent, external audit of all entities concerned with collecting and receiving spending funds relating to the State Budget
Forum to which audit reports of the SAI are submitted: The State President
Main functions, duties and powers of the SAI: To undertake the external audit of state entities and to report to the State President (needs more info)
Number of staff employed by the SAI: Currently 170 of which 120 are audit staff
